Dr. Mary Ann Gawelek is not only a donor and volunteer but also an advocate, demonstrating the meaning of LIVE UNITED.

"I advocate for community improvement everyday by supporting United Way's efforts to research the condition of women in the region, and by encouraging women to get directly involved in their community by serving on profit and not-for-profit boards.

I LIVE UNITED by advocating the issues most important to my United Way."

Alexis D' Tocqueville Society

United Way Tocqueville Society was founded more than 20 years ago in order to deepen the understanding, commitment and support of United Way's most generous and community-minded investors. In our area today, 19 people have joined to ensure the needs of Westmoreland County and surrounding areas are met. Members will have unique opportunities to see how they are making a difference in their community.

Members of the Tocqueville Society have contributed $10,000 or more, annually, to support United Way of Westmoreland County's Impact Fund.

"My wife, Marianne, and I have contributed to the United Way for many years, and we have contributed at the Tocqueville level for the last few years.  While we also contribute to numerous organizations outside of Westmoreland County, our contributions to the United Way are a way to give something back to the community in which we have been so fortunate to live and work for more than 20 years.

We have been blessed with opportunities, good fortune, and the ability to resolve problems and issues that we have enountered during our lifetimes.  The United Way and our contribution helps those good people who have not been as fortunate.

I would like to thank those of you who also contribute at the Tocqueville level, and I would like to invite others to step up their contribution to the Tocqueville level wherever possible - our community needs our help!"
