Basic Needs & Financial Stability is working to help families in need and create paths to family financial stability.

 

PA 2-1-1 Southwest serves Westmoreland, Fayette, and Allegheny Counties. By dialing 2-1-1, callers will be connected with a human service information and referral specialist to help assess the human service programs that best fit the needs of the individual and/or family seeking help.     

 

United Way recently launched Mothers Making More (M3), an initiative to help serve single mothers with children under the age of 18 to earn family sustaining incomes. Partnerships have been created with Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board, Westmoreland County Community College, Seton Hill University, Westmoreland Community Action and Excela Health.

 

These efforts address the critical needs around Building Strong Neighborhoods and Communities.

Success in Learning in Life

Pre-K Counts for Youngsters
Early School Success (PA)

 

Lead researcher for Pre-K Counts, an early childhood program involving early education preparation and providing opportunities for every child to succeed in school, the workforce and in life, Dr. Stephen J. Bagnato’s, Director, Early Childhood Partnerships, University of Pittsburgh and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh studies focus on how investment in early years pays dividends in the success of our children in their life-long learning in two school districts in Westmoreland County.

This report examines the status of local women across a variety of indicators including pay equity, poverty, health and well-being, leadership and violence against women.  The research suggests that the status of women can be improved in a number of ways, which will in turn strengthen our community.

The Value of Faith in Action:

Building connections with older adults

 

This is a Preliminary Program Evaluation Report of the United Way of Westmoreland County's Faith in Action Network.  Early findings indicate that older adults who participate in this program benefit most from increased opportunities for social interaction and transportation to medical appointments.  Interview results from volunteers who provide Faith in Action services are also included.

Standards for Excellence Impact Evaluation:

How do nonprofit organizations operate effectively, efficiently, ethically and with accountability to their many constituents?  This evaluation summarizes the impact of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organization’s Standards for Excellence, an ethics and accountability code for nonprofits, on participating nonprofit organizations.  Several human service agencies in Westmoreland County are certified through this program and many more have participated in the educational programs offered through Standards for Excellence.
