Kathy Lighthall contributes to United Way in a variety of ways. She works at Allegheny Energy, where she participates in the workplace campaign each year. Kathy is also extremely active in her community of Scottdale.

"Being on the Steering Committee for Jacob's Creek Area Faith in Action, gives me the satisfaction in knowing that I am helping seniors right in my hometown. I look forward to seeing smiles on their faces.

I LIVE UNITED by volunteering in my community, Scottdale."

This program is designed in partnership with interfaith, non-profit and business communities to enhance the quality of life for persons 60 years and older who reside in Westmoreland, Fayette and Armstrong Counties by providing companionship and volunteer assistance.

Over the past three years, United Way of Westmoreland County has launched four new sites within the service area. United Way's four new sites cover communities from Scottdale to Lower Burrell. In addition to these new sites, the Latrobe and Connellsville area have the oldest  independent programs in our area.

The Faith in Action programs help the elderly and frail remain longer in their homes and thus avoid the expense of moving to a nursing home sooner. For the price of covering two individuals in a nursing home for a year, Faith-in-Action can serve over 200 individuals annually.
