Jim Stitt has been a donor to United Way of Westmoreland County for over 25 years. Read below about how he demonstrates the meaning of LIVE UNITED.

"I believe that as a resident of a community, you have a responsibility to provide solutions in any way you can to that community. That's why I have donated to United Way for so long. United Way puts my money into the programs that Westmoreland County needs the most.

I LIVE UNITED through contributions to my United Way."

A Diamond Donor is someone who has donated to a United Way organization continuously for 20 years or more. These individuals exhibit extraordinary dedication to making a difference in our communities. This strong base of supporters has enabled us to grow over the past century, building programs that help families and individuals empower themselves to create better lives.

Community Impact

Community Impact is our way of making a measurable and lasting difference in our community.

In 2003, United Way of Westmoreland County conducted a Community Needs Assessment. After an extensive review of county demongraphics, surveys of community leaders and influencers and forums with key business leaders, our Impact Committee set the three areas of greatest need for change. These areas provide a powerful lense that focuses our communities' resources for measurable change.

3 Critical Areas

Community Impact Councils reviewed all of the region's needs and selected the following as the key areas of focus:

  • Helping Children and Youth Succeed
  • Supporting Vulnerable and Aging Populations
  • Building Strong Neighborhoods and Communities

Organizations and agencies funded under the Impact model, received three-year grants. Our plan is to generate systemic change over the long term in these areas of critical need.

Key Facts from the 2003 Assessment:

  • On average, it took four phone calls to reach an appropriate human service provider.
  • 3 of 17 school districts in Westmoreland County offer full-day kindergarten programs.
  • Westmoreland County's 65 and over population is growing with an average of 18%, with some areas over 20%.
